I am sometimes amused and quite often terrified by the behaviour of other car drivers when they see me towing my boat along. No matter what the speed limit is, how fast I'm going or how many cars are in a long line in front of me they become obsessed with getting in front of me. Pulling out in front of me out of side roads at the last second is quite normal, the closer I get the more likely they are to do it when they suddenly notice I'm towing. Then the overtaking, no matter how pointless the exercise they have to get past. They close in eagerly like a predatory animal then dash past regardless of the road. Do they win prizes perhaps for the most reckless overtaking? Then I find they are slowing me up because they didn't want to go that fast anyway, just to get past the "hold up".

It all makes me very nervous.

I think, in many drivers' eyes, anything being towed automatically becomes a CARAVAN, therefore it must be slow and has to be passed.  I swear I have seen just one caravan in sole occupation of 30 miles of Lane 1 of the M5 between Taunton and Exeter.  And as a result it was going faster than the hundreds of vehicles 'passing' it in Lanes 2 and 3!

I expect it's because they see your trailer and think "I don't want that thing disintegrating in front of me at 50mph, I'm out of here!"

Boats being towed around over here are very common place (Ontario)  and on the whole, behaviour by other drivers  is pretty good....even on side roads etc... I think because so many people do trailer boats in my neck of the woods mutual respect  prevails....long may it continue....

A few times I have seen bearings and tyres go on trailers in front of me. Amazing how many people dont bother with maintenance.

Had a tyre blow out when towing on the motorway once - that taught me to use proper trailer tyres.

I think part of the problem is that the caravan/boat/trailer often sits on the drive in one place for a long time (causing tyre distortion and weakening). Then its time for the annual trip and suddenly the tyre lets go.

Trailer tyres need considerably higher pressures than car tyres - also frequently overlooked.
